Parade Float hat

Finished the last custom order in this batch!

Taupe/beige perchy hat with "parade float" style feathers.
I'm pretty tickled with it, though these feathers took some effort to get them to behave. They ended up pretty glorious.


Not much content in this post either - just pretty pictures :)

Next Project: A bejewelled girdle that has been waiting patiently for me to finish this batch of orders. After the girdle, the next batch will begin. :)

Those are some IN-credible grey feathers. I wish every feather I ordered came looking like these.

New orders finished!

Here are three custom orders that I just finished last night and today, and thought I'd show some photos.

Flamboyantly feathery Navy and rust: (my camera made this look much oranger than it is) Also, I have only one more hat's worth of this rust trim. MUST find more, cause I love it. I also discovered that I can make filigree cones out of some of my filigree findings. They are a great size for feather ends.

 A Lovely Khaki green-brown bowler. This one used a sueded fur-felt blank that feels quite wonderful and was a pleasure to work with.

Fabulous bright red bowler, with a leather sweatband and satin lining. it's really a smart thing with red hats, or you end up with a bright red forehead. Only color that really does that.

New style of Ouches!

New style of Tudor Ouches!

I'm pretty jazzed - look what came while I was away!
These are very like the square black ones I already had (which I just got a lot more of, btw.) in that they are pierced earrings, but they are a great shape and style to be used in Tudor gown and Jewelry bling!

They are 5/8" X 3/4" Plated metal alloy with acrylic rhinestones. They will be $1.50/Pair. I got 100 of each color, but if we like them, I can get more. They came pretty quickly.

The come in these colors and this finish only - but both looks pretty perfect to me!

Here's the back, as they come out of the package.

The post bends very easily. I thought I'd be cutting them off, but found with the square style that bending them and poking them through the fabric was a good placement aid before stitching them on.

So - whadaya think? I only got 100 (50 pair) of each color to give them a look. Do you like them? Should I order more?

Finished Fascinator

Here she is, all finished!

Top view of the red fascinator, all attached to the base and the headband.  I think it came out beautifully.

 

My customer asked for a little more height, so I added a small bandeau-like base, to lift it up and cup it forward, and I made a bunch more of the lavender beaded flowers to place around it.

It's all stitched together. I think glue would have added too much extra weight.

I think she's going to look wonderful!

Another fascinator!

This was an exercise in "If you can't find it - MAKE it yourself"

Here's the dress fabric I was trying to coordinate with:

But all the nicer silk flowers right now are either magenta, electric red, or screaming orange, and I really needed something sort of more in the brick to raspberry range. So I combined about four different existing flowers, and painted each layer till it looked cohesive and had depth and shading.

I think it produced a beautiful result!

I really didn't have the right color purple to do the curly feather thing that I did on the others. (which is too bad - cause I really did like that effect) BUT - I found some fabulous cut crystal beads that were the right purple with an over-wash of a red-gold tone. I knew they belonged in there somewhere, but I wasn't sure where.

So I took apart a nicer looking silk hydrangea, and added the beads in as stamen-like centers. I also made a centerpiece for the red flower out of the same beads.  

I love the purple-red combo!

And then...Fascinators!

And then sometimes....Fascinators!

I'm putting these here because I made them, and I think they are the epitome of spring. 

I like the low-key but elegant silk covered button in the centers of the first two.

Playing with these colors was a lot of fun, and made up for the not quite flowerdyness of my yard...

 Then there's this one, which has a silk ribbon flower in the center. I like that the green in the center plays as a neutral, making the piece come across as all white - but it isn't monotone. Neat trick :)
